The Legend Rule
Judge Level 1Two Krenkos, one problem — and your opponent doesn't even get a say.
Cards involved
The second Krenko
You already control Krenko, Mob Boss — and cast a second one from your hand (perfectly legal; the legend rule only applies on the battlefield).
What happens?
Both are on the battlefield.
How is this resolved?
Pick an answer to continue.
If a player controls two legends with the same name, THAT PLAYER chooses one — the rest goes to the graveyard as an SBA (704.5j). It's not destruction and not targeting: indestructible and hexproof don't help, and nobody can react "in response".
704.5jIf two or more legendary permanents with the same name are controlled by the same player, that player chooses one of them, and the rest are put into their owners’ graveyards. This is called the “legend rule.”
You keep the fresh one
The choice is free — usually you keep the untapped one or the one without auras/counters. The other Krenko is in the graveyard. No "dies" trigger? Wrong: it DIES perfectly normally (battlefield to graveyard) — it just wasn't destroyed.
