Time Stop vs. the Extra Turn

Corner Cases

"End the turn" is no Counterspell — it's a black hole for the whole stack.

Cards involved

Step / 4

The extra turn looms

Your opponent casts Time Warp: "Target player takes an extra turn after this one."

You hold Time Stop

In response, you cast Time Stop: "End the turn."

Rules: 724.1

724.1Some cards end the turn. When an effect ends the turn, follow these steps in order, as they differ from the normal process for resolving spells and abilities (see rule 608, “Resolving Spells and Abilities”).

What happens?

Time Stop resolves.

What happens to Time Warp and the extra turn?

Pick an answer to continue.

"End the turn" (724.1) means: all spells and abilities on the stack are EXILED — not countered, simply discarded. What never resolves never happens: no extra turn. Then all remaining steps are skipped, straight to cleanup.

Exam fine print

Because exiling is not countering, Time Stop also disposes of spells that "can't be countered". And the extra turn would only have come into existence WHEN Time Warp resolved — until then it simply doesn't exist. To protect the extra turn, you must counter Time Stop, not "push through" the Warp.
